The present invention outlines a method for creating a novel neural interface based on optically controlling neurons in a cell-containing hydrogel based transparent transplant. The transplantable neural network could be applicable in various fields. One of the fields is CNS tissue engineering, providing a possible treatment for brain injuries, stroke, neurodegenerative diseases and more.
