Though the brain has relatively high blood flow, it remains one of the least accessible organs for drug delivery due to the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and cerebrospinal fluid barrier, which separate the brain from its blood supply and control the movement of compounds in and out of the brain. Our invention consists of nano-machines composed of liposomes that deliver pharmacological compounds through the BBB to specific subcellular targets in the brain, allowing efficient treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases and brain damage from brain trauma.
