Fiber-optics is the leading technology for high-bandwidth communications such as Internet, telephones and cable TV networks. Current commercial transmission using a single fiber with a single wave-length can reach throughputs as high as 10 Gbps. Our technology overcomes this limitation by operating a laser with the ability to rapidly switch between different wavelengths. Low fabrication costs and nanosecond switching times allow for a cost-effective solution for increasing the capacity of existing fiber infrastructure.
